Save Takanassee Beach Club

http://www.savetakbeach.com/

The Jersey Shore Chapter is working with other environmental and historic preservation groups to stop the development of the Takanassee Beach Club in Long Branch, NJ. This family owned private beach club has three 100 + year old US Life Saving Service buildings on the property. The family has sold to a developer contingent on a CAFRA (Coastal Area Facility Review Act) permit from the state DEP. This stretch of coast is notoriously bad for public access and the Chapter would rather see the property turned into a public beach park. The historic preservation groups would like to see the buildings saved and restored.

A public hearing on the CAFRA permit was held and over 100 people came out and spoke against the permit. State DEP CAFRA staff still needs to make a decision on the permit. Surfrider staff lead a meeting with Assemblyman Sean Kean and interested environmental & historic preservation groups. It was very positive and the Assemblyman pledged to look for state funding to keep the club from being developed.

Take Action:
We were able to get another written comment period from the DEP so we are asking you to take action again, this time in an online petition. http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/Deny_the_permit
